The Resourceful Handyman

David is a great character to play when you know how to use his abilities but it takes some time to learn all of them. After this, it is possible to play any scenario alone without any difficulty. His tool belt is extremely precious because he carries everything he needs for surviving the war. This item is exactly what turns David into a handyman; a man of 1001 utilities who uses it to express his whole baggage of knowledge acquired, showing mainly his abilities on dealing with knifes, repairing weapons and creating a variety of new ones; a total of 7.

KNIFE - David is the master of knifing on the game. He can perform a deadly combo when using even his folding knife, the weakest blade in the game. The Knife Combo is probably the most difficult ability to learn because it requires certain precision and time on pressing the X button while aiming a blade. On Resident Evil Outbreak, he can perform 3 movements; on Resident Evil Outbreak File#2, 4 movements so, to complete the combo, it is necessary to press the X button 3 or 4 times depending on the game he is. Additionally, on Resident Evil Outbreak File#2, it is possible to aim up or down to attack performing 2 movements in a row. The best way to learn it is practicing on Training Ground, File#2 in order to know exactly the right moment to press the buttons. The best moment to attack an enemy using this is just after avoiding his attack or when it is not paying attention on him. It is possible to do wonder with this small weapon including finish a whole scenario using it even to kill the final boss.

WRENCHES - He is strong and quick but his disadvantage when playing is that he his special action Wrench Throw is limited to and after using all 12 wrenches, he does not perform any other kind of movement to attack or to dodge because the game does not allow it. Throwing wrenches on enemies should be done just when necessary. The best situation to use them is to stop enemies in order to go on knifing them or escape. It is most efficient against zombies and hunters. When throwing a wrench on a zombie, it will fall to the ground or step back, giving enough time to attack or escape. When throwing it on a hunter even when it is running, it will step back. In any occasion that one of them is running to his direction, these wrenches will retard them for at least some seconds.

JUNK PARTS - David can fix a broken weapon using some small pieces of metal junk he carries using an ad-lib repair but making it useful again. The item becomes brand-new again after combining the Junk Parts with he broken item. Additionally, on File#2, he can create two new weapons using just these Junk Parts. Their use is limited to 3 times.

Time Bomb - This weapon is powerful but not too useful. It is a result of combining Junk Parts with a Battery. The result is a Time Bomb which when fired with a lighter, it blows up. Basically, the only scenario worthy of trying some fun with it is Desperate Times, Very Hard mode, where you can create 3 of them. They are extremely useful to open locked doors leading to the Kennel and Autopsy Room. Like Alyssa, David can also open some locked doors without the need of a key but he needs a Battery instead. On End of the Road scenario, there is no time or space on inventory to carry and use something like this.

Grenade Launcher - This weapon he can create only on End of the Road scenario, which provides him a Grenade Launcher Model. Combining this prototype with the Junk Parts, a brand-new Grenade Launcher is ready to be used. It saves time mainly when playing on Very Hard mode and it is another feature that turns the whole scenario specially made to play as him.

VINYL TAPE - This is probably the most useful item David carries. His strong vinyl tape allows him create several hand weapons using ordinary tools making them extremely useful. These quick ad-lib weapons he can create are frequently more efficient than a standard handgun even not having much range. In other words, they are perfect to fight against zombies in order to save ammo to the final bosses or stronger enemies that require a farer distance to attack in safety. Just by combining correctly the items, he will automatically use the vinyl tape to bind them tightly. Its use is limited to 9 times.

Flame Spray - The result of a Pesticide Spray combined with a Lighter. This is probably the most effective weapon he creates on File#2 because it allows a "one-shot kill" on zombies. Once the flames reach one of them, it will burn to death in some seconds. If just after spraying them an evacuation route is reachable, no more than one spray will be necessary to kill it. If there is more than one coming together, the flames will probably reach all of them and in this case, one spray can kill 2 or 3. The same effect does not happen on Outbreak and something even worse: you cannot recover the lighter after emptying the can; you simply lose a lighter after making a Flame Spray so, it is not a good choice. Therefore, this weapon becomes one of the worst to use. The number of sprays is exactly the same as previously existing inside the can.

Spear - The result of a Wooden Pole or a Long Pole combined with a Butcher Knife. Attacking on a sticking movement forward turns this weapon also a good choice against zombies. This weapon is extremely useful on Outbreak because after sticking a zombie, it will step back and fall to the floor. On File#2, more or less. It can drop a zombie or simply make it step back. In general, this weapon is useful against any creature that does not flies or moves and attacks quickly in order to provide quick escapes or opening passages. Its use is limited to the moment the knife escapes from the end of it, allowing an average of 10 sticks.

Hammer - The result of a Concrete Piece combined with an Iron Pipe. This weapon is more powerful than the spear in what refers to damage. It will kill an enemy much faster but its use is very difficult on narrow corridors if not aiming down. It also takes more time to attack but it can drop several enemies at the same time and can surely be used to provide quick escapes or opening passages among them. Its use is also limited to an average of 10 attacks until the moment the concrete piece will escape and the iron bend. Additionally, this weapon is one of the easiest to get.

Stun Rod - The result of a Battery combined with an Iron Pipe. This weapon is probably the most difficult to be used because it is heavy and the attack is by a sticking movement. Anyway, it will discharge an electric shock on the enemy which will probably fall to the ground. On Outbreak, all zombies will fall after receiving the electricity discharge. It is very difficult to kill a monster with it because it takes a long time. Using for simply dropping and pass by them is the best choice. Its use is limited to an average of 8 until the moment the battery will completely discharge and the iron will bend.

Long Pole - Even not being too useful or worthy, he can combine two Wooden Poles in order to create a Long Pole. The Long Pole has a longer range and is stick on enemies while a Wooden Pole has a short range and is swung. Sticking the Long Pole on an enemy will rarely drop it but will keep it far until the moment the pole breaks and becomes a Wooden Pole again which is even less effective. When using it, it will keep the enemy a little closer and dropping it will be even more difficult. In both cases it is difficult to pass by them after attacking.

Aim

David is the only character who aims a small gun - including a Magnum Revolver - with only one hand and in most cases, he does not miss his target. His posture to aim shows his ability with firearms. He is not a champion of shooting but he has absolutely no problem on shooting straightly to an enemy. His only problem with firearms is reloading them because it pisses him off. Another way of showing his affinity with them is that he also aims a gun using his left hand. This is not shown in the game but in one of the official wallpapers of Resident Evil Outbreak File#2, he is doing exactly this. In other words, he is a practical guy adapted to a large variety of circumstances who possesses several ways of fighting depending on the situation he is in.

AI Partners

AI partner is an unsuccessful way of helping the main player because they turn the situation which is difficult even worse instead of making it easier as expected. Even though, they turn the whole game into an art and a huge exercise of patience to step over this enormous challenge. It is not difficult to see they waste ammo, use healing items without being hurt, hug a zombie or if you really know exactly the place where enemies appear and pay a real attention o them by monitoring their inventory, you will see that sometimes they "waste" ammo by passing by an empty room or a room full of enemies without killing any of them. Sometimes, they get hurt in a room free of monsters and start asking help and other random foolishness which put them in danger and consequently the main player too. They frequently die and fuck up the situation. People who are learning have a huge difficulty when facing them behaving like these and sometimes screaming like idiots without any reason.

With David is not too different but he is probably the most intelligent AI partner or the smartest of them. If you are a wise ass or simply know your whole way through a scenario and walks fast, he will not be a disturbance no matter who you choose. He will always follow Mark and Alyssa and sometimes Yoko in special; therefore, you can indirectly control him or watch him much better. The others, he will not, unless in certain situation on Resident Evil Outbreak; but this will not be a problem when walking fast. David is strong and watches over himself so, if you do not play as one of those three, he will frequently disappear from the map and do whatever he needs to do alone. When by his own, he will not collect herbs or any other recovery item because he will rarely need them. He does not get hurt easily and even if he did, he will use a recovery item just when he becomes in Danger, Bleeding or Poison status. When by himself, he does not need more than a knife to go on but he will collect pipes, knives and any kind of firearm he finds on his way. When he reappears, he will rarely be on Caution status. Recovery items on his inventory are difficult to be found but weapons will not lack. They can be empty, bent or whatever but he will be carrying them. During the whole scenario, he will appear and disappear but at the final boss, he will probably be there to fight because he rarely dies as an AI when acting this way.

Relationships

Perhaps his only fault is to be solitaire but when having AI partners on Resident Evil Outbreak, he will always be followed by at least one of them. It does not mean that this AI will help him the whole time or follow his instructions but this character will at least fight some monsters with him. When David is an AI partner, he will sometimes follow the main player during the game play but he will not always follow the orders given by him. His complete interaction with others is restricted. He helps Alyssa in certain occasions, Yoko fully helps him and he shares a mutual help with Mark. These are the only characters he goes along with on both games but on File#2, this it is much more evident.

Alyssa Ashcroft - David is a character who helps her a lot in many occasions. It is possible to control him when playing as her and then create a good partnership because he attends to her requests. Unfortunately, the contrary does not happen. Their behaviors are very similar to each other; Alyssa is also independent like him but she does not go alone as an AI partner as well as he does. She will not follow him but will be frequently asking his help. She is a strong-minded woman, a person who can be considered his female version. She is someone he can trust and then he goes along helping her on what she needs but her preference for working alone keeps her far from him; the main reason why a good relationship is enough. They are nothing else than friends.

Cindy Lennox - According to the game, this is his worst relationship. Cindy is weak and calls for help the whole time but does not follow his instructions or show some bravery when facing the situation. She is somehow snobbish with him, not allowing him to do something for her the way he knows. They will just help each other in a good way when the other is in a dangerous condition but when possible, Cindy will always heal David if he got badly hurt or poisoned.

George Hamilton - He and Cindy are an official couple who shared a lot of similarities between them, including their relationship with him. As a personal opinion, sometimes it seems that David envies the social position George got and prefers to remain far from him but fighting to have a future somehow similar. George probably does not trust him to follow him everywhere or listen to his words unless he is in danger. Well, there are a lot of situations where they can cooperate in a good way with each other but it is restricted to the end of the scenarios when they can be real guardian angels of each other. So, their relationship is not too bad; something like a weak friendship is perfectly suitable. Additionally, George is almost always looking for him and helps him shooting capsules when he is hurt or poisoned. Perhaps, they can do better with each other after the incident.

Kevin Ryman - His behavior does not convince David that he is a trusty guy. The fact that Kevin is a policeman who sometimes gets drunk at he J's Bar and does not pay his bill, smoke and has a leadership position can make their relationship even worse. They are nothing else than rivals who share mutual dislike for each other. One will help the other when the other is almost dying, except on Outbreak where they can cooperate better with each other but it is nothing that can lead them to a friendship; anything else besides a bad relationship is just bullshit.

Jim Chapman - He is a coward character who prefers to run instead of fighting even when a struggle is extremely necessary. He does not shut up; he speaks useless words the whole time and sometimes screams without a reason. He also collects any kind of recovery item and uses without necessity. Unless one of them is dying, the other will ignore and not move an inch to help.

Mark Wilkins - The most suitable words to explain their relationship are friendship and loyalty to each other. They share mutual help going on a successful partnership through the whole game. Mark is strong and brave but moves slow thanks to his advanced age. Therefore, he is most suitable to be as an AI partner to makes the whole game easier but on any situation, they will fight fiercely against any situation; certainly, the best relationship he has.

Yoko Suzuki - The best comes at the end? Yoko's sweetness is something that really calls his attention. She is the only woman who is always looking for him in order to remain protected from any threat. More than this, she shows to be extremely helpful and strong to keep moving even though she is a little pessimistic sometimes. He does not return all her attention but he is the whole time fighting to keep the place where she is free from enemies. She cooperates with him on all he needs and consequently, she is the only character who can approach him more than a friend because he allows her to remain next to him the whole time.
