The Umbrella Goddess
There is no much consistent info to provide about her, so all the content about her will be displayed on his section. It can be a lot of info to display but you will find everything about Linda in one page!
Why Linda?
Linda is the real ebony beauty. "Linda" is an adjective in Portuguese language that means "wonderful" in English and it this suits her perfectly: Linda is "linda". Her job is what I am trying to be: a researcher; not from Umbrella but I would like to work there on T-Antivirus research just like her if the company really existed. While most researchers were working on viruses, she was working on an efficient antivirus for T and this is why I like to use the expression \"Umbrella Goddess\" to make reference to her because with her creation, she is able to save lives. Not much is known about her besides her role on the End of the Road scenario because she is a non-playable character and consequently has no information about age, weight and height; has not the whole set of items or an exclusive personality. Anyway, she is my favorite NPC and my second favorite female character.
Part of my admiration for her is a consequence of my admiration for David because they are very involved with each other on a partnership during their last moments on the city according to the reasonable events throughout the game. They help each other since their first meeting and thanks to their mutual efforts, they are able to leave the city and survive after this. Linda invites David for escape on their helicopter that was waiting outside. David would not be able to survive without her because she is the one who knows the cure for the T-Virus and she would not survive without him because she was shot on her leg by the sniper, so he was the only who could drive her to the helicopter. Their story is very beautiful because David care much about her not just for leaving in safety; finishing what was suggested by her seems to be like a question of honor to him. Her involvement with Yoko shown on her epilogue is another reason once they go to the court to contribute with the closure of Umbrella Corporation. She has also a great sense of justice and I say that she seems to be like Alyssa in many ways.
Who is she?
Linda Washington a.k.a. Rinda or Rhinda is a character that appears for the first and only time on End of the Road Scenario, Resident Evil Outbreak File#2. But, the idea of creating her came a long time before the official release of the game. There are speculations about her appearance on Resident Evil 1.5 as an Umbrella Researcher, the same occupation she has on File#2, but the game was not finished. Thanks to modifications on the original storyline, she was taken out of the game, so she does not appear on Resident Evil 2.
Linda is one of the few ebony women of the series and the first one to appear officially in a game. Her nationality is probably American but with close African descendants. As a personal opinion, she is one of the most beautiful women of the series. 'Linda' is an adjective in Portuguese that means "wonderful" in English and it suits her perfectly. For being a secondary character, information about her like age, height and weight are not mentioned. When Linda is chosen as a playable character, her game play is like Cindy Lennox thanks to her role but her personality is surely not like her. Linda is somehow able to cure people as well as Cindy, so she could be considered a healer or a character use for defensive style of game but Linda is not insecure like Cindy. Once she is officially a non-playable character, her personality in this situation can be compared as Alyssa Ashcroft. Linda is strong and expresses trustiness; she is trusty enough to make David trusts on her. Linda appears in the game wearing two different costumes. The first one is the Umbrella uniform which consists of black shoes, skirt and socks, white blouse and the Umbrella's badge. The second suit is a social dark gray vest she wears to go with Yoko to the court, a scene shown on Yoko's Epilogue.
Considering that in Decisions Decisions, George learns how to create the Daylight reagent that his student Peter Jenkins developed, Linda is the only living person who knows the cure for the T-Virus. This is exactly his key role in the game. The reagent she developed, the AT-1521, is different from the Daylight but its final effect is the same: suppress the growth of T-infected cells. The procedure used is not mentioned but it's probably much more difficult than gathering the three ingredients of Daylight once it is generated on a very equipped laboratory.
Her mission
Here will be just the true or reasonable happenings of the End of the Road scenario because what is non-sense cannot be considered true, so any game play influenced by players will have no importance. There are just 4 characters she knows personally written below in a chronological order:
Rodriguez: He is an U.S.S. member and the pilot of the helicopter sent to rescue Linda and Carter at the Laboratory. His helicopter is parked at Main Street North and the box on the side of that helicopter is his second objective: carry away a badly-succeeded experience created by the Umbrella for experiences continue outside of the town. Impatient, Rodriguez argues with Linda before she takes her way back to the lab at the moment that they could simply leave. He seems to be the type of guy that first looks after himself and doesn't think twice before following an order for his own safety and he will just help other is he has time for this.
Daniel Carter: Linda goes back to the laboratory to meet her delayed working partner. He helped her creating the AT-1521 reagent. Intelligent but not too smart, he's capable of putting his and other people's life in risk. He's a character that helps and disturbs at the same time and is not able of escaping the city because he's a victim of his brilliant idea. At a first moment, he is almost a victim of a zombie at the beginning of the End of the Road scenario. After the incident inside the lab, he decides to reprogram a Tyrant's brain and set it free in order to clean the area full of hunters. It works at the beginning but the Tyrant becomes against them. He has no time to use his Bomb Switch and is killed by his trusty bio-organic weapon. What a poor dick.
David King: They are partners until the end. When she arrives at the laboratory, David is helping his partner killing the zombie that attacks him. There is nobody else besides them on that place. David does not think twice before entering in action for guaranteeing the safety of surroundings. On their first meeting, David almost hits Linda but after this, he notices she is human and stops. She understands his role and then they shake hands and move inward. As retribution, Linda invites him for escaping with them and this is what he makes happening. Moments after this, an accident happens at the local and the main entrance is closed and all of them remain inside of the lab.
David is the only person that can help them and he has no other choice. Linda goes to the experimentation room and uses a computer to check the situation and find a way out. She discovers that the place is on fire and that there are hunters that escaped from capsules along corridors. Their only exit is the East Exit and she suggests him to look for Carter at the observation Mezzanine. Carter asks his help to cryptograph a Mo Disk and at the moment Carter is reprogramming the Tyrant, Linda arrives to have a look on his brilliant idea. Using the Tyrant as a powerful weapon is the way he found to kill hunters in safety. The Tyrant then walks along the corridors until the East Exit following them and exterminating hunters easily. The only way to the East Exit as well as to the Underground is opened by her when she uses her ID CARD LV2. When she reaches the East Exit, she keeps waiting Carter and then when he arrives, the Tyrant follows them and changes his behavior suddenly. The capsule breaks when it attacks Carter first. Linda is attacked moments before when she tries to help him. She is dropped to the Underground and Carter cannot reach the bomb switch and use it in time. The Tyrant kills him and pursues David until the moment he finds Linda again at the Drainage Area. He helps her and then she tells him about the use of that capsule. Their only choice is keep moving towards the helicopter that is exactly above them, at the Main Street.
The most reasonable way of they escaping from that place is by the helicopter she suggested at the beginning of the scenario for three reasons: David is the only character on the laboratory as the movies show, so he is the key for discovering what is true or not on that scenario; David uses to finish what he started, so like a warrior, he will complete his job; David would not waste time using the Bomb Switch to kill the Tyrant instead of saving Linda unless he had no choice and once in this case, the following events on the Drainage Area carries both to the tunnel, so the way to the helicopter is just ahead… or almost there.
In front of Apple Inn, Linda is shot in her leg by the sniper and then she needs David's help to move forward. This is the moment that he serves as her god's gift because he is the only person able to conduct her in safety to the helicopter. Mines are not hidden below the pavement; they are simply placed over streets and sidewalks.
Those U.B.C.S. people are the responsible for the operation XX that consists of the destruction of the city. At the moment David and Linda arrive at the office, the code is activated and then there is no much time left to reach the helicopter. The door to the stairs is sealed leaving the way to the helicopter the only certain way to go.
Nyx is simply a question of game because if he is defeated, there is no Tyrant to run after Ada Wong on Death's Door scenario, Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles along the highway. The objective of Rodriguez is to carry the box out of the town, so he cannot simply release it. David will not wait the uncertain. Therefore, he keeps moving shouldering Linda. He has in mind that the helicopter is the only way and that they cannot miss it. The battle against the mutated Tyrant existed because when it appears at the Death's Door scenario, he is weaker than normal suggesting that David defeated it. The only reasonable ending of this scenario is \"Up and away with Linda\" by David King. End of the Road is an ending scenario that happens at night during October 1st to October 2nd. After this, there is no town anymore because it is wiped out of the map. Looking the fan getting busted, Linda laments the death of his partner Carter but she realizes that what is done is done. Nobody can go back on time.
Yoko Suzuki: Linda probably knew Yoko during the time she was employed by William Birkin to work on his lab. During Yoko's epilogue, Linda follows her to the court and their common objective is to contribute to the end of the Umbrella Corporation. It is possible to notice that they are great friends probably because Linda also looks more like Alyssa than Cindy. In one last scene, Yoko raises her hand to start her speech.
Aftermath
The moment that Linda serves as David's god's gift is not shown in the game but it is suggested and it occurs between their escape and Yoko's epilogue. During this period of time, Linda cures David from his infection. The name Umbrella Goddess came because in reality, she is one of the few people of Umbrella Corporation that worked on the creation of the T-antivirus and not T-Virus or any other bio-organic weapon like many of them. While others directly or indirectly worked on the promotion of the infection, she worked on the suppressing of the infection. She knows the formula she developed, so she just needs to reproduce it outside of the town in another laboratory or at least, she has easily access to another sample of the AT-1521. Her work from now on is probably for the humankind trying to avoid another outbreak like the one occurred in Raccoon City.
It was shown that David and Linda lived their last moments in Raccoon City together or at least very close, working together practically the whole time since their first meeting. David is not just looking for the reward he is going to receive; stuff he says show that he cares about her safety in a similar way as a protector. Could a romantic relationship arise? Probably, because it can be somehow reasonable but I say no because Yoko is perfect for him and Linda is almost. Linda is intelligent and wonderful but Yoko has something else like a native weakness Linda has not; she was simple hurt thanks to the shot of the sniper. David and Linda are partners and a friendship after the incident can surely happen even because she is also partner or friend of Yoko. Their relationship is very good but is not enough for them to be considered a couple. Sometimes I imagine her with Rodriguez... it makes more sense.
Final Notes
Some people consider her useless and even decide not to save her because they think she is just a disturbance. I consider this simply a question of noobice or inexperience of these players and once they do not get the beginning of everything, the rest becomes completely misunderstood most part of the times. Resident Evil Outbreak File#2 is also a very difficult game to comprehend, so it is very common to read foolishness around or to see people simply ignoring it for its lack of success. It is definitely not my favorite game but unfortunately my favorite characters are there and this is why I made a huge effort to know more about all this craziness. Maybe it is possible to light some people's mind disposing of logical thoughts. This is what lack for most Outbreak Fans anyway.
