The Successful Partnership

Like previously written, David is an essential part of the End of the Road Scenario. Nothing occurring on Decisions, Decisions is his real fate but there are two interesting situations in which he is involved that are useful to know more about him. The first one is the "Regretful Ending" where after using the Daylight, he is rescued on a helicopter. He looks outside to see the city being left behind but the fireman who is sat in the front seat on his left side calls his attention. When looking to him, and noticing what is going on, the same occurs with the pilot of the chopper. They become zombies and try to bite him exactly at the moment he wakes up from his nightmare. His frightened expression appears for the first time but he soon realizes that everything inside of the chopper is normal and he breathes saying "That was all a bad dream. I will forget it." The situation he lived seems to be very unbelievable to him that is reported as nothing but a nightmare or something worse than it. This is how he sees the situation during the whole game. The craziness was real but for him, it was just a bad dream like others he had.

The second situation is certainly a real proof of his loyalty. When Mark fails at producing the Daylight and consequently both are not able to use it, he does not get pissed off with him. He simply remains quiet and contemplative while the chopper leaves the front square. They are left at the university waiting to the end. But this is not a reason for them to remain wandering around. They go back to the Front Square in order to finish fighting like two warriors who never give up no matter how hard the situation is. David makes some adjustments on the old war tank that is abandoned there while Mark checks its interior. After everything is ready, David climbs the tank and aims its cannon to the crowd of zombies that appear just ahead. Mark starts the tank and David looks fiercely to them saying "I'll finish this" as his last few words. During the last moments of their battle, Mark drives the tank towards them before the missiles appear in the sky.

By luck, this whole situation is just game and not storyline. Their special ending is useful to show that David and Mark shares mutual help during the whole game and go until the end fighting against the most extreme situations. On the most heroic ending of the game, two heroes ends up together showing their unmatchable bravery no matter how much they are in disadvantage. Mark is strong and extremely helpful but he is not a leader or a commander of a small group even being a military veteran. He is the oldest and most experienced of the eight characters and is frequently giving orders but he is not someone who can take the leadership of a group probably because he gives chance for the youth express their strength. David frequently follows his orders and attends to his instructions in the same way as Mark does with him during the whole game. David trusts Mark probably because he knows that the old Vietnam Veteran has something good to teach him hidden behind his rude appearance. Consequently, they are a successful partnership in many ways.
