Yoko is the only character who suffers of a moderated amnesia throughout the game. Her suppressed memory is a consequence of her involvement with the T-Virus, specifically with cell donation for the T-Antivirus research. She was operated by Greg Mura moments before the Outbreak happens. During the game, she is constantly trying to remember what happened to her. Her loss of memory is not complete but this is what probably leads to some pessimistic thoughts. The ‘Old Photo’ looks like it was taken in a lab and her comment is “Is that Monica? And... me? I don't remember this being taken”; ‘Ad Pamphlet’ is a PR pamphlet for Umbrella that talks about their contributions to nature and she doesn’t know why but she feels sick…; ‘Tattered Notebook’ is a notebook with the Umbrella logo on the cover, makes she wonder if someone was saving it. It brings back memories...; and ‘Making Friends’ says ‘Read this book, and you'll be friends after only 3 minutes!’ and she wonders “what if there's no one around?” She knows that these items are not strange but she doesn’t know exactly their whole background. Sometimes she thinks she will not be able of doing something like escape from the city but this is not a reason for stop moving. Certain characters will not follow her because of her lack of trustiness.
Yoko is a weak figure who needs protection. She is also slow on running but it does not mean she is more exposed to threats. Her special ability is restricted to self-defense without attacking her enemy. By crawling back, almost no attack will damage her and she will be free of getting hurt until the moment she stands up again. This is movement is essential to provide quick escapes by passing between monsters on a narrow corridor or simply dodge an attack. She does not handle guns efficiently because she is somehow afraid of them and does not know how to do it. Yoko is also a girl who gets constantly scared but do not fall into despair screaming around. Even frightened, she remains calm and concentrates in the situation.
In general, she is protected by the strong men of the game except Mark Wilkins which will not care much about her and sometimes will ignore her requests and consequently the return is the same. When playing Desperate Times scenario with her and Kevin Ryman, he 'teaches' her how to do it in order to kill zombies that invade the Raccoon Police Department building. Kevin is a guy who cares about her because protecting people and offer them support is what he is supposed to do and she allows him to do his job. A handkerchief he offers her to wipe her tears turns him also into a kind person for her. He drinks, smokes and flirts every girl around including Cindy which is already engaged; in other words, he can do his job in a kindly manner which makes she likes him but he is not her style and anything else besides a friendship is foolishness. She goes along with Kevin very well but her attention for David King is something extraordinary. He is a moody plumber with a violent past but he protects her in a very special way mainly because she looks for him the whole time and follows him everywhere full helping him in whatever he needs. Alyssa is a great friend of her and they share mutual help. She is also strong enough to offer Yoko some protection. Jim is coward and not strong but he helps her on what she needs. There is no return in this case because Yoko frequently follows her way without caring about him probably because she does not like his behavior. Cindy and George are more healers than fighters but they will cooperate with each other in what each of them needs. They will go on a fight together or they will help one another without problem.
Yoko is a character who has a good relationship with almost everyone; Mark the only exception. All the others will help her the way they can and she will be helpful with everyone but Jim. In special, she will go well with Alyssa and David; characters that most suit her personality and consequently she will follow and help them or one of them anywhere.
